Sending loved ones items in prison

I'm hoping someone can give me some info on this, because my love and I haven't figured it out yet.

My guy is still in county, and his sentencing is on Tuesday (hopefully, if it doesn't get postponed again). He'll be there for a few more weeks and then he'll be sent off to prison.

Our first Christmas together, 4 years ago, I gave him a ring to wear on his right hand. Not an expensive one, just sort of like a promise ring. He had that thing for years and never took it off. Last summer we were floating the river in our raft and the ring slipped off his finger. I was a little bummed but he was pretty upset about it. I want to get him a new one and send it to him while he's in prison, but I'm not even sure if that's allowed. If it is, what's the process? I'm guessing it isn't as simple as just sending him a letter in the mail. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance :)

Are you guys legally married? If so, all you have to do is send the ring to the Prison Chaplain, and he will make sure the ring is delivered to your guy.

If you aren't married, you might still be able to send the ring this way but I would call the prison first and ask.

Once he gets to his parent prison they normally have places set up through the prison that you can buy things for your loved one and have it shipped to them and I know here where we are rings on the list. This is something you can check out once he gets to his parent place.

Thank you both! I appreciate the responses. Iwayne, no, we're not married. Once I find out where he's going I'll call the prison and find out how to go about doing this. Thanks again :)

I think it depends on the state but I'm pretty sure once he gets to his permanent camp,its a process that has to be approved through the chaplain. I think here in Fl you have to be legally married. Any other "jewelry" has to be a religious thing but still has to be approved through the chaplain. You can just mail stuff out. No matter what it is. Even letters have to be a certain number of sheets of paper, stamps can only be a certain number of books (1 here in Fl) that they can have at a time,photos is only a certain number they can have, etc. Anything else can be considered contraband and therefore have consequences (DR's, loss of gain time, time spent in the hole). But,like I said, once he's at his permanent camp,you can start researching info pertaining to that camp and the state.
