Reclassification

My son has only been in prison a few months. He received a letter today that he is being reclassified at a higher level and will not be given any time off. Does anyone know how or why this happens? Since it's Friday night we cannot get any legal counsel until Monday. We are obviously very upset.

They may have got his classification wrong at the start or i hate to say it he did something in there that raised a flag to them.......i asked my man for you and thats what he said.
can your son ask his case worker?

He was assaulted but he did not fight back. I'm wondering if that's what this is all about. His case worker told him he did not get written up because he didn't start the fight or even fight for that matter. He got knocked out and beaten up. There's no one around to ask since it's the weekend.

He said the letter says he will not be given any time off for good days served that he will have to serve the full time.

Its possible that is what its about unfortunately they have to investigate anything that happens and if what happened was out of sight of any cameras (yes there are spots where the cameras dont pick up things) then its his word against the other guy's my bet is the other guy has been reclassified as well.

Thank you. He just called back and said he had another inmate help him interpret the legal jargon and he believes he has been reclassified due to a dorm change and being given a job. I guess we can rest easy again. This is going to be quiet the roller coaster ride.

Iam glad he was able to call you back and had it worked out. Hmmm that doesn't sound right to me but hey its the prison system and they do what they want. Yep its a roller-coaster ride and then some.

They don't usually give jobs to men that are in trouble, so that seems a good sign. Usually you really have to be someone the guards like to get the jobs. Someone they know is reliable and can be trusted. That has to look good on his records.

I guess we are just guessing from what we have heard. But as long as he sounds ok now, that's something to maybe make you relax some.

Yes, I hope so. He is going to check with his case worker on Monday. He hasn't had any problems except for the guy who beat him up when he first got there. He didn't fight back and was told that he would not receive a write up. Nothing else has happened that would prompt them reclassifying him so I'm praying it's something with his job. Please pray with me. Thank you.

Confirmation! Good news - this was for a prison job. Not the job he really wanted but a job!

hopefully he will watch his back from now on... lots of gangs in prison... and if u are not part of it they will get u ..... he needs to be careful
