Package- what to take him

I can take him a package Monday, and I'm looking at the list of what's allowed, which is a bit confusing. Cold cuts are allowed, but not in resealable packages..? Cooked, hermertically sealed meat is allowed, but I'm not even sure what that is. I don't want to buy things that will be rejected, and the list is confusing. It says canned food is ok, up to 16 oz, so I am assuming that includes canned tuna fish. Also, cheese is allowed, "chunk/sliced only"- does that mean the 1/2 lb blocks of cheese are allowed? Like Cabot?
Where do they keep the food once it's opened? If you have a package of salami that cannot be resealed, are they expected to eat the entire contents in one sitting?
Confused...please help!

About the meat . . . they want the package to be factory-sealed so there's no chance of any drug or foreign substance being introduced into the meat before he receives it. I don't know about refrigeration at your guy's facility, but salami won't really go bad because it's not raw meat. It'll "sweat" a little bit, but I don't think he'll get sick from it if it's left out.

I would be confused too and the only think I an think of on the cheese is must be those small cubes in a factory sealed package or slices in the factory sealed packages. Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm just as lost as you are!

I bought a bunch of stuff, following the not-very-clear list of allowed items. I hope they let him have it! It is nice being able to take him something. They allow fruit, so I got cherries, bananas and oranges. And I found some packages of cold cuts that are not resealable, and a bunch of other stuff. I hope he gets everything.

I was able to leave everything I bought with the exception of some Oscar Mayer "Rev" sandwiches. Apparently items with a glue seal (not hermetically sealed) are unacceptable. I was happy that everything else got the okay!!

I'm in shock. I had no clue any prison allowed food items to be brought in. That is wonderful! Are these just for your visit or is he allowed to keep for later?

He keeps the package. He's in reception right now and where he is, they allow two packages per month or a total of 35 lbs. I was in shock too when I read that this was allowed. I was able to take him a lot of food, including fresh fruit, bread and meat, and also soap and other personal items. He asked me to take a couple of things for some other guys there who I guess have no one visiting, so I took those things, too.
He told me they have lockers, and that's where they keep everything.
During visits we purchase food from the vending machines.

That's awesome you can send packaged foods where he's at! Is the vending machine food outrageous there? It costs $5.00 for a steak sandwich and $2 for a soda and $1.25 for skittles!

The vending machine food isn't really expensive. Soda is $1.00, sandwiches are $3.50, candy bars are $1.25...
