I had to have the PO come to our house a month or two before his release to check it out. I cleaned and cleaned and she barely stepped in the door.
I am not sure if his PO will come see him at the prison. Here, in WI the day he gets out as soon as you get to your city, he has to go to the PO office, before he even goes home. I think we went home for a minute anyway.
That day she gave him his rules, explained about the electronic monitor, set a time a few hours later to come out to our house and set it up
Then she gave him his schedule of when to check in with her again, when to be at her office weekly.
Eventually he only went every two weeks, then once a month.
Unfortunately if they mess up at all, they CAN end up being violated for their probation. He blew it once and got put in jail for a weekend. Blew it again, and now he is back in for 2 years. Been gone 9 months again. The point here is make sure he gets it that he can end up back in if he don't do exactly what they tell him to do.
If his PO wants him to call every day, DO IT... If she or he says you can't leave the state without a travel permit, or a call to them, DO IT.. that's where mine went wrong. Something came up he couldn't wait to get a hold of her. It was a weekend, no PO was available, so he left, and someone called it in that he was out of state. BAM gone back to prison.
Some states and counties have on call parole agents, if there is an emergency and you have to leave the state or area. Our dumb county doesn't. Kind of a trap.
I am sure it is different from state to state in some regard, but they pretty much all have some sort of meeting before they leave, I think. But if it is stipulated that he only serve a certain amount of time, then that should be it, he should be out. We already can see on the DOC site his release date. That is set in stone for him.
In our state they only release, I think on Tuesdays from the state prisons. So if their release date falls on a different day, later than a Tues, they leave the Tues before.
Yep we had the house check to hiz po want to make sure I wanted him there and I knew why he had done the time.
Mine was out in the morning such a good feeling to pick them up!
I will say make sure he understands what he has to do on parole if they say he can't go somewhere then don't go there or he will get sent back! Tell him to get a copy of his rules coz you need to know them to remember they are still under sentence! Just be careful! Oh and my love did have a one last review before he went your love should be able to ask his case worker if he will be on parole and where and how soon he has to report to them.....be early for those appointment if you can!
Otherwise enjoy having him home :)
Congratulations! You're almost there...
