So my brother said he got called to the counselors office today. the counselor wanted to talk to him about working off the camp grounds. Of course he said yes..He has to get his GED first and he is in the class and will get it the middle of June. The counselor told him to come see him when he gets it and he will get him one of those jobs.YAY! Beinging in there is really making him appreciate the small things in life. the odd thing is all he has heard is that you don't get clearance for off site jobs until you are there 12 months. He has been in 13 weeks tomorrow and was chosen out of 1000 guys that are there. I am so happy about this..He is still able to make something good out of a bad situation. My respect and admiration for him grows more with each day! I am so blessed to be the sister of such a strong, courageous man!

That's awesome.... happened kind of like that with my lovie as well....he was in prison prison... couple month after he got their... he was getting jobs on the outside of the prison.... on the wild fire crew....he passed all the tests and cpr/first aid... he got all certifications that was needed and he was chosen one of the guys out of 100 or something... then when fire season was over..... he worked on the road crew... then all of a sudden they pulled him out... maybe 6 months later or so.....now he is in community work center working as a fulltime driver...volunteers at a hospital for two days a week in between his routes, and volunteers on saturdays for habitat for humanity. It's nice when they give them a bit of a relaxed environment.... makes them feel good about themselves.. and it was a huge surprise for me.... cause they usually dont transfer them from prison to community work center until hey have about 18 months left to do.. and he has more then that....we were pretty happy...

WOW!! I am happy for both of you. Has to be a relief that he is having parts of his day as a normal free person. They must see he is no threat to anyone, and won't mess up.

I guess the kinds of "crimes" that were involved they know they aren't dangerous. Of course many of our guys in alot of prisons aren't. Now you can feel better. I think you have come a long way since we first talked. Mine is thrilled to just do the garbage at the prison. He gets to be outside, and doing something other than sitting on his butt all day. Federal prison sounds alot different.
