New Here-Where does he go when he gets out?

My 34 year old son is nearin the end of a 9 mo sentence. His home is gone, job, car, clothes, and he has no money. He had turned to drugs the past year and burned all bridges. There are no halfway houses here. I'm newly married & he can't live here. I'm hiding the fact that I'm paying for the lawyer. Where do they go when they get out if there is no family to help them? It's tearing me up. I know he'll need support but there's no one who can do it. Everyone has done it over & over on the minor things that had him in jail so many times and now that suppport has drained away. How do I help him if I can't share my home or give him money? Where do they turn under these circumstances?

My brother in law was in a similar circumstance when he got out a few years ago. Check with the Goodwill, they encourage felons to work there and I know they can or may know of some housing options for him. My brother in law worked for them for the 1st months he was out.
If you are in a large city, there may be a "homeless shelter" where he can stay and work and get his own room. They basically work off the rent doing maintenance,cleaning, etc around the place and get a private bedroom.
Call your local social service office they may also know. Since he was in for drugs, I am assuming he is an addict, you could check and see if you could get him into a program that would be paid by the state, that would give him a place to stay and the support he is probably gonna need. He could than be helped getting into a sober living room or apt

I don't know what state you are in but here in Texas there are shelters or churches that will help people out. I volunteered such a shelter and found that if someone wants help they can get temporary housing, a job and even dental or health care. If you are associated with a church or religious organization you may be able to find someone there. I agree with you; there is limited sources available and you should let him sort it out for himself. I have been there and had to experience "Tough Love" with me kids too.

My boyfriend had looked at sober houses, which may be an option for your son since he has addiction problems. My boyfriend's PO also gave him a list of apartment complexes that accept those with prison backgrounds. There should also be state services or non-profit companies that help them find jobs also - it might take a little research or his PO may also have some recommendations.
