Hi I'm so new to this group .. I'm looking for support. So on the 5 of may 2017 my dad was arrested. In the early hours of the morning. I wasn't home and that what makes it worse.
So for 10 months we have waited for trial date and court hearing. And iv just found out my dad has been convicted guilty.. this come to me as a huge shock.
I'm devistated beside my self overwhelmed sad and feel so much guilt. As I felt I failed to get him home with me.
As a grown adult and his child iv tried looking for support pages groups etc and I feel so defeated as most page aim to hit the younger generations..
Please someone help me over come this help me come to terms. Or someone talk me through the steps I need to take for self care and getting through this
Iv tried talking to my best friend who really has no idea what I'm going through and even when I try to talk to her she is always on her phone to her bf texting and or talking.
She only has the facts her now current bf tells her about goal as he was there for about 6months And keeps tell me she knows how I feel... And reverts go her bfs time in goal which she wasnt present for!!! And it really pisses me off as i feel I need support not the constant reminder of feeling alone and that I have no one.
I feel like a second option and that she doesn't really care.
My dads in goal. And I feel so helpless ashamed and guilty that there isn' a thing I can do. We have to wait until may for a sentence trial and realistically look at 10+ years for a crime I know he couldn' of committed :(
Before I began working for NASA, I was a lawyer. There are so many questions I have about his case. There are steps that you can take. As you have already stated that the sentencing hearing has not come. First and foremost, you need to talk directly to your father and ask him if he is guilty and how much he wants your help. Then you need to talk money.
1) Every state has an appeals process for convicted felons. That are time limits in every state. You need to file an appeal before that limit expires.
2) If he is innocent and can pay for an attorney for post-conviction relief or acquittal, you need to hire an investigator. Again that is money.
