Any thoughts on my situation? Here it is; I am married now and still can't get past my son's father being in prison because we were together for a long time even while he was in jail awaiting trial. (until 2010) I sort of just gave up and moved on because I felt like he was getting too wrapped up in the jail environment instead of focusing on bettering himself . I always let him see our son but I hadn't really communicated with him in past 3 years since I had got engaged then married, but for the last past year since he's been in prison he's been on my mind constantly. I have dreams of him being free often. I miss him, I read all his old letters, I look at pictures of when we were together and a family with our son before he became incarcerated. It's been 5 1/2 years and I want his incarceration to end like NOW. Mostly for his children's sake! He has 2 more outside of our son and they all just need him. His family needs him too. I need him. He was such an instrumental part of our lives. But, I feel like there's a reason all this has happened. Probably because he was on a destructive pathway that myself or his family could keep him from going on. And I truly feel like if it wasn't for him being incarcerated he would have ended up dying. So, I thank God he didn't. Not quite sure what to do with these emotions I have right now. I've been sending him mail past few months and plan to visit him soon. Just sort of easing back into communication, I am a married woman so don't want these emotions to end my marriage. But, then again I can't help how I feel. I love him, I miss him, I want to see him, I want to hear him. My husband has been completely understanding of this, but he just wants me to start feeling better. I am an emotional wreck right now. I have guilt feelings too because maybe I should have not got married and stuck by his side through this all. Hopefully I'll feel better once we start communicating more.

First of all you have a good husband for being understanding of the situation and how you are feeling. Maybe you could see a therapist if you can afford one to help sort out all of these feelings. I mean it's so hard to know what's right or wrong but your emotions are obviously showing you do still care about him but you have a marriage too. I mean I don't have any answers for you but I am sorry you are going through this and hope and pray it gets easier and you will start to feel better. I'm sure someone will post soon that has more experience with this type of situation.

I appreciate your feedback CantWait2015. Funny you mentioned a therapist....I am seeing one tomorrow. She's the same person I've seen for marriage counseling and she's really good. You're right my husband is a stand up guy for not packing his bags after me admitting to still being in love my ex in prison. But then again my husband isn't the most independent person so he may be just sticking around to avoid going back to undesirable living situations. On the other hand, I'm not wanting to go through a marriage having what is turning into an emotional affair. It's not fair to my husband or my ex. I have a feeling once I visit with my ex in prison for the first time this is only going to get more intense. Or maybe that will be the thing that tells me I shouldn't be barking up his tree. We'll see I guess.
