First let me say I understand, I remember the first few weeks my boyfriend was in was a nightmare. Like you we hadn't been together for that long, by the end of my guys scentence our time away will have be longer then our time together on the outside. But for me these past 4 months he has been gone we have grown so much as individuals and as a couple. I'm telling you this because there is a choice to be made when going into somthing like this you either let it tear you down or you let it build you both up. How long is he in for? (I'm still unsure about the time) if you are too that's a whole different nightmare we can relate on. You are going to both need to make a decision if you guys want to stay together during this,both people need to be willing to put in the work. I'm sure a part of him is saying he wants to do this "alone" because he is worried and doesn't want to hurt you. When guys first go in other guys tell them their girls are gonna cheat on them and fill their heads with anxiety so it's normal at first for the guy to act that way, but he is going to have to learn not to listen to other people and make his own decision on what to do. I'm sorry he won't let you talk to his parents, as far as money goes you are gonna have to set a budget for what you can put on the phone and books. Don't let yourself go into debt because of this. Also you need to take care of yourself, I know it's hard at first but you are gonna need to find ways that help you stay calm and keep living your life. Take up hobbies, read books, work out. Set goals on things you can do for you while he is away. It's hard but this is also a perfect time to focus on you and work on yourself. When a loved one does time there's no such thing as doing time alone, you will do the time right with him if you choose to stay with him.

I understand about him not wanting you to talk to his family as my guy told me his sister calls him an embarrassment (she's not a nice person anyways) but unfortunately he has to talk to her because she's taking care of his books.

As for phonecalls maybe only have a once a month thing going as they are expensive. I don't pay because my guy has a calling card so maybe he can look into that. However much time he has you're going to want to stock up on stamps/envelopes/paper because that's the biggest source of communication, unless you can see him on visits too.

Try to not stress so much as that's not good for either one of you for the long haul. You do have to talk to him about how you're feeling, just remember he's not mad/stressed at you just the circumstances he's in.

The first few weeks were the hardest for me and my fiancé as well. Eventually it does get easier and we still have months to go. And insecurities still come up on my end and his. When emotions come up and I can't talk to him right away I have to write him. I don't send all the letters but it helps just to write it out. Like @gregsbaby said it's not you that he's mad/stressed about it's the circumstances and he knows how hard it is so he needs to make sure this is something that you're willing to do with him. He will test your loyalty and some days will be harder than others. Do not go broke trying to provide for him. There's only so much we can do this becomes another bill. Sometimes you may have to ask him if he wants the phone or the books this week? He will understand because now the things that are normally free are now another bill. Keep your head up and don't let this stress you too much. Most of us have had to learn the same way that stress and anxiety is not at all helpful when doing time with our guys!

May I ask how old you both are and how long have you been together? I am sorry you are going through this I don't know neither one of you so I can't really give you much advice. If you want to be with this guy ... then you need to try to accept the fact you guys are away from each other temporary. It's very hard for me to give any advice or understand much about your situation. Stay strong and let it play out, but dont go out of your way to make it work if he won't be putting much in as much as you do. I appreciate you guys. It's hard not having anyone to talk to when I need it... he is my best friend and I can't just talk to him, call him or text him whenever. I have been told to walk away and I'm sure it would be easier but you can't choose who you fall in love with... maybe I'm the one that will stand by him and show him there's a better way. Maybe it will work our just like everyone is saying. I have to try...

It's really hard to tell because every relationship is very different... regardless if its an outside relationship or inside one. Just remember if you do choose to wait for him .... make sure thats what you really want to do knowing he won't hurt you at the end. I waited for my husband but we been together for almost 13 yrs... he showed me otherwise that he did really care and wanted to be with me. He been clean now for almost 7 yrs, he has a great job that he loves and recently got promoted within the company. If you believe in him then wait for him, if you aren't sure then don't. Go with your gut feelings.
