Your going really have to push the prison and him to medical help as for mental help well that pretty much wont happen. Can he ask for a transfer?
When you do talk to the prison make ssure they know your his mum also write to the prison the governor or whoever is in charge of the prison. Also ask if they are doing any sort of investigation into the bashing.
As far as him being in isolation. He might feel safer in there. Mine was in solitary 138 days, and yes, it was awful for him at first, but eventually he just got used to it, he read a lot, slept a lot, wrote letters to me and others, and we wrote to him and my letters were a way he could imagine what life was like out here. It made him think a lot and I do believe it changed him in a good way. No, it's not great to think of them in a situation like that, but in a way, you can almost feel better that no one can hurt him while he is in there. Depends on his mental stability how he endures it. Mine got magazines and books and read like he had never read before. They do get through it.
