He’s home...now what?

My boyfriend recently came home 6 months before expected. I was so happy and excited for him to come home but now that he is home, I am not as excited as I once thought I would be. He started working the second day into coming home which I was happy about but also aggrevated because I still feel like im raising his child on my own. Has anyone else experienced this before? Is it just an adjustment period?

Is the child's mother not in the picture? Some of your issue is your ex's re-integration into society, and the fact that you've done 100% of the work during his incarceration. As for the rest - well, some men aren't great with kids until the children are old enough to do things with daddy. That's no longer an acceptable attitude (if ever it was!). And some men re-partner without really examining what went wrong with the last union because they want a caretaker for the child or children.

You'll have to do some soul-searching to sort of tease out which issues are in play, and what percentage of each is at fault.

Kiwi, I feel you. MyBF is due home in 6 mos and I wonder too. He’s talked about taking time w family to bond and do therapy, then recently he talks about work work work. It’s lovely when a man strives to provide. Just try to set a calm moment to tell him how you have missed him and in some ways , still do. I’m sure it’s adjustment, internal and external pressures, since he hasn’t been home. Tell him what you want, need but maybe start with asking him how he feels too.
