Chris Ortloff Arrested On Unspecified Charges

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Former New York State Assemblyman Chris Ortloff has been arrested in Albany, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Spina told Newschannel 5 that Ortloff is being held at the Albany County Jail and will appear in federal court on Tuesday.

However, he declined to release the charges on which Ortloff was arrested.
Officials at the Albany County Jail said Ortloff was booked at 8:55 p.m. Monday.
New York State Police could be seen searching Ortloff's home on Morrison Avenue in Plattsburgh Monday night.
Ortloff's home was quiet Tuesday as passersby and state Rep. Janey Duprey commented on the arrest. "I think it is particularly bad when it's someone who's been in a position of trust and respect and they violate that public trust," Duprey said of the arrest, cautioning folks to "bear in mind these are just charges."
"It kind of hits home because I remember passing by his house all the time," said Joan Ormsby, a Plattsburgh resident who used to live near Ortloff in Lake Placid.
"It's sad," added Elaina Ormsby, Joan's mother. "Give him the benefit of the doubt until proven guilty," she said.
"It's somebody who we all looked up to to have our best interest (in mind) when he was in office. He'd been there for so long," said Jamie Vanetten, of Altona. "Most people are so familiar with him. This is a great shock."
Ortloff served as a Republican in the Assembly from 1986 to 2006, after which he was appointed to the New York State Parole Board.
As of Tuesday, he had been relieved of his parole board duties, according to Heather Groll, Director of Media Relations and Public Affairs NYS Division of Parole.
"The matter is presently under investigation. Effective immediately, Commissioner Ortloff has been temporarily relieved of his parole board duties. His status as a parole board member is currently under review," she said.
Before that, Ortloff was an anchor at WPTZ.

COLONIE Former Assemblyman and state Parole Board member George "Chris" Ortloff used the Internet to tried to lure two would-be children to a motel for sex, according to the U.S. Attorney.
Ortloff was arrested Monday at an motel near the Albany International Airport after following through with his plans to meet girls he thought were 11- and 12-years-old, prosecutors said. Instead, the people he was allegedly corresponding with Online were undercover agents.
