OK so my husband is in a medium security prison. He looking to get into some substance abuse classes or programs as well as possibly an anger management program so that he can demonstrate rehabilitation. Well the case manager told him that since he has a long time before he gets even close to parole or whatever she denied him saying that it is too early and will wait before trying to get him started. This is one of those things that I feel like it shouldn't matter that he was sentenced for a long time if he is able to do something to better himself and show initiative then get him in the damn things.
So pretty much I am wondering if anyone has dealt with this type of situation and how if at all were you able to get the case worker to get off their ass and do something. We are trying to get a reconsideration filed to hopefully have a couple years shaved off since this is his first offense.
We know he only has 120 days from the day he was sentenced in order to get this paperwork filed. His PD said she would send it the first or second wk of this month and she obviously doesn't have a sense of urgency. As you all might have realized it could take awhile for them to file the paperworks and all. Thanks for reading and hope someone might have some possible suggestions.

Down hear the prisons decied when and where of if the can do the cores it pretty much normal for the prisons to keep them hanging its not right or fair of them to do that but i dont think theres much we can do about it.
As for getting the paper work call the women who was suppose to send it out get on her case about that one. Its way to important to let it slid like she is.
As for the PD sending the papers in the last email that I wrote like a month ago I even gave her the address for the current facility that he is in so that she wouldn't have hunt it down or anything. The hubby is going to call me friday evening so I can't wait for that call I need it lol. He will let me know if he recieved anything. If not I will send an email and say something like I know that this week there was a holiday and just touching base about it. Since who knows how long it can take them to process it. I figured that will bide her time through the following week to get them sent and if not then I will call her myself. If I need to make a big deal about then by the gods I will. As the old saying goes. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease."

Hmmm maybe givening her a call would get her moveing a bit faster a long with the email?? Your going have to keep at her on that one.
Hmmm think your man will have to push them to get into the corse it make it look good when he gos to court to get some time off.
@mskim I think he can go to AA but I think there is another program that helps to doeal with it maybe? Not sure though. I will tell him to just keep talking to the case manager. . . . Cross my fingers that all works out lol Thanks again for your responses. ^_^
There are alot of classes he can take, just to keep busy and make the time go by.
Don't focus on what he can't take and figure out what he can. the more classes he takes the better he looks and the faster his time will go:)

Usually in all of the prisons mine has been in, you can't get into one of those programs til later in their sentence. Stacyanne is right. It's because then they go to a halfway house. Mine wouldn't. He would do 6 months, and go home.
We discussed it, we are definitely going to attempt to get married while he is in. It's the only way to have him NOT go to a halfway house, and get a transfer out of this horrid state. Who cares about a fancy wedding, we have been together 14 years?
I guess that makes sense about the whole having them wait but they need to explain it a little better ya know? Ah well it is what it is and we learn to work around their rules or abide by them.
