Yesterday was my ex-husband's birthday, it was his first birthday in custody. The whole day was busy, purposely to make sure that I did not have time to mope but I am finding that today's weather being beautiful and knowing how much he loves the spring and the outdoors is just as tough, everything reminds me of him and it is difficult to enjoy myself knowing that he is not able to do the things that he enjoys. I see how all of you are able to offer some kind of comfort and relief for each other but I am just at a point now where every thing about it just sucks with no consolation other than that he is alive and who knows how long from now he will be able to be present and share these beautiful days with myself and the girls, He hasn't been tried or offered a plea let alone sentenced yet, 6 months feels like it's been a million years already and the girls are growing up fast. I am looking forward to seeing him from the limited distance and space of time that I will in April when things start moving along with his case. Ahhh until then I will just try to bide my time and keep busy, this is the longest, other than my pregnancy's in my life that I have been this anxious and unsettled for so long. Thanks for letting me get some of it off my chest, my family and friends tend to feel as though I am asking for a solution when I talk about him, but I really just have to get some of it out every now and again.

Birthdays in prison are terrible for them. They pretend it doesn't matter, but it does. So I would always do things like me and my granddaughter baked him a cake, decorated it, sang the song for him, and took pictures to send him so he knew we were celebrating for him. I would tell him what presents I got him.
We sent cards, and granddaughter drew pictures for him and wrote him letters when she was old enough to know how to do it all by herself.
We drew around her hands and said these hands can't wait to hold yours. Things like that. They love that even more than real gifts.
If possible we order him things for birthdays and Christmas from the catalog allowed to purchase things for them. I never forget him at holiday time. We let him know that we miss him with us then.
