Mine says going to actual prison is much better for the most part. Then they have more to do. Jobs, their own tv, some have gyms to go to, some places they can go out for walks. And actual prisons have contact visits.
This is just the beginning if he is going to be in awhile. You will have to learn to cope with it, and he will too. He will find a couple guys he will be close to, and they help each other get through it.
He is doing 25yrs. He cannot repeat the class.
Star dream, when my daughter was held in a county transfer center for a couple of months she was not allowed outside. It was very hard for me to hear about it. She slept a lot in the beginning. I was the one not sleeping. In time the shock and fear of what is happening in your world will be a little easier to handle. I had no clue people in jails in America really aren't allowed outdoors until my daughter was sentenced. It is unethical in my book. I hope your fianc is moved to a better place soon.
Thankfully in the state prisons they usually have an " exercise yard", which in his last one was a small square area with a walking path, and a gazebo to sit in.
Where he is now, being a transitional housing place, there are no fences, no barbed wire, no guards outside. They get to go out in the beautiful area, that is acres and acres of land with walking paths, woods, and a tiny river running through that they can soon fish at. It is a place to get ready for coming home.
When locked in the county jail, he too just slept a lot when allowed to. He said those are the worst places, but you get used to it and find ways to keep busy.
We worry about them and get angry, but they do adapt.
Prison's and jails pretty much are run by rules that are not anything like the real world. I read a bunch of stuff when I was in Criminal Justice classes how much they can get away with. How they can side step even some laws made in the Constitution.
