Families of Prisoners Support Group
This community is dedicated to families that have been disrupted by prison. Having a loved one incarcerated or having been incarcerated comes with its own unique challenges that require support and understanding. Join the group to find others who know what you're going through, and to seek advice or share your experience.

You will have to decide which fights you will enter into and which fights you will let pass you by. There is not enough time or money or energy or healing available to you to become engaged in every struggle that comes along. I don't mean that you shouldn't explore and make discoveries about your new circumstances -- you should learn about it all, but you cannot fight it all.
As you come up against people and procedures that you don't understand or that you don't trust or that you respond to with fear and disgust, you must look deeper into the situation and learn about it. The more you find out about it, the easier it will be to decide what to do and how to do it, and then to evaluate whether you should continue your present course of action or make a change.
That's where this community can help. We represent a lot of sorrow and pain and disappointment and grief. We also represent a lot of change and encouragement and hope and joy. Bring us your stories and let us tell you our stories; let us tell you about our stumbles and our accomplishments. Take what you need and see if it fits your circumstances. If it fits, and it works, come back and tell us. If it doesn't work, come back and let's do some brainstorming.
Our family here contains people who are visionaries, pray-ers, researchers, and healers. We help each other get on and keep on, and one day you'll realize that you're not the same person you were when you first came here.
You can become a person of peace and patience, but it doesn't come as a result of your concentrated effort, it comes as a result of not giving up and learning how to bend instead of break. I know this all sounds abstract and philosophical, but these qualities aren't so much tools that you can pick up and wield consciously, they are qualities that become a part of who you are.
Love and friendship!
