I told her she was brave for telling me, and we shared a big long hug. (I felt her heart was racing)
I let a day pass. I wanted to talk with her about it more, and I had so many questions. I called and spoke to a licensed therapist on the phone for only a few minutes. But she did suggest that I say' I wish to talk about this more' to my daughter. She explained that was a good approach. (she gave a reason, but I forgot it)
My daughter seemed happy to have a conversation. We talked for hours, about all sorts of stuff.
Your daughter did express that she didn't want to talk about it, but maybe since it's been a few days she, and you, are ready. I too wondered if I should not bring it up again until she does. But I needed her to know that she can talk to me about anything, even if it's hard. I've always told her that. I had to follow through.
I applaud you for your reaction and comments to your daughter. Remember, she must have felt safe to be able to tell you. I also want to get my daughter into a support group. I look forward myself to learning all I can on this journey.
❤️ best wishes to you both!
