Families & Friends of Gays & Lesbians Support Group
This community is dedicated to parents, siblings, grandparents, other relatives and friends of someone who is either gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning their sexual orientation. The purpose of this community is to help families and friendships grow and maintain positive relationships with gay sons, daughters, family or friends.
I am not religious and I don't think anyone was "meant" to be anything, so that explanation confuses me.
I also admit, I've always been curious about how many "ex-gays" have an active and fulfilling straight sex life. (I don't just mean "adequate", I mean passionate and frequent)
There is also the fact that most people are not actually 100% gay or 100% straight:

So, whenever someone claims to have "changed" their sexuality, my interpretation is that they chose to only act on their subordinate heterosexual tendencies, presumably because of the social benefits.
I find your approach to your current predicament rather interesting because when heterosexual persons become HIV+ they do not receive counseling to alter or repress their sexuality.
The problem as I see it was not the sexual orientation but the choice of relationships within that orientation. I have known many long term relationships that were between members of the same gender.
Now, not that I am criticizing your choice, but one begs to ask if said ministry was, indeed for your best interest, I have yet to meet a ministry that focused on bringing out who they were meant to be, specially when it came to a sexual orientation they deem immoral.
But I digress, is heterosexual the only choice you had? Is this who you really are? Or is it who they told you you really are? I am asking these hard questions because of the rather dogmatic source of your ministry. I believe is a question that needs to be asked of oneself.
I went through something similar but in reverse years ago, for years I was told and I told myself that I was heterosexual and it turns out I was gay all along, the difference is that I am celibate. Therefore, sexual orientation has nothing to do with sexual behavior. Yet many seem to think so.
I do apologize in advance for saying this but sexual orientation is not something that you can either pray away or stop being. If that were the case then many people would pray away heterosexuality.
I think you would have been best served if said ministry would have addressed your choices in relationships as in types of relationships which incidentally also happen in heterosexual venues.
I am wondering what would have been their approach if you had been heterosexual. Would they have recommended you to stop being heterosexual? Do you not ask these questions? Or even wonder?
Incidentally, the person who you were meant to be has nothing to do with either sexual orientation or gender and it has everything to do with you being constantly connected to your Source (God) so that you only make choices that are for your benefit and not allowing anyone else to influence you, no matter what position of authority they may have. I learned that the hard way.
Respectfully,
Wolf
