I've seen these battles in my own family...usually resulting in divorce, prison time, lots of tears and pain. In my case, everyone ended up OK after alot of pain. yours?

My father abused my mother, sister and me in some same and different ways. He molested me and my sister and always blamed it on the booze. I can say that it helped me not to be who he is when I had my little girl which is 18 now. I can thank him for that. He put the fear in me that one day I would turn out just like him. My family is all broken up and I don't care if I ever speak to any of them ever again. I let my daughter make her own decision but I am totally disgusted with them so I don't even speak. I never had a family with them and I will never have one any time now or in the future. Long road to hold I know but if everyone knew of all of the pain and etc they would do the same thing. Alcohol was his way out for my mom. She knew everything and still stayed with him.

It ended up with no life lost in our family, but it's hard to say no lasting damage. Now my daughter is out. She's in the lying phase. So my mom has her at her house living a life of denial. I haven't seen her in over 2 monthes. It's the most painful thing I've experienced. Worse then drunk dad, worse then drunk husband, worse then drunk self.

I am definitely going to be following this thread. I am currently living in a woman's shelter as a result of abuse when my ex was high (drug addiction). He was a wonderful person when I first met him. Today he is a shadow of the person he used to be in 3 short years. I got a call from him yesterday. He is actually living in the street and cannot work because he can't get a shower to go to work. He has truly hit rock bottom and I am hoping that he will know seek the help he needs.

Tough? Yes, it is! Two little girls, a husband who is supposed to put us all first! I'm angry - he's accepting? I have relocated from the UK to here (the US) and we've been together 12 years. I haven't my own extended family around me and his family will always make excuses for his behavior. I'm lonely and sad and want to go home!

My brother has caused so much pain and drama for our family it is unreal. He's only 25, and been to rehab at least 5 times already. It has never worked for him yet. I feel so bad for my dad, he is so disappointed that his only son has turned out to be such an asshole, because of drugs! He's been using since he's been about 15, and pretty much done everything under the sun. My mom and sister and I have gotten to the point of disconnecting our hearts from him. But my dad's heart breaks every time he hears another screw up. The sad thing is, he really does have a great personality and kind heart, but the alcohol and drugs just turn him into a different person. And not a nice one. Drugs definitely have the power to destroy families, and yes, it is very tough

It's tough, of course!!! I feel the pain for you DJH. And to jmb32, I am so much on the same boat with you, watching the pain going through my family because of my heroin addictive brother. I was a very good person when he wasn't using drug. It's so sad to know much bad drug can effect our life. Wish you all peace! (Which I really need right now for my family)
