I agree. Addiction is horrible, and I wish it could magically go away. i wish the world would be free of it. I feel sad for Whitney's daughter, her family, the music community, her millions of fans. They all are now innocent people saddened my someone else's addiction.

As for Whitney - I don't know how to feel. I used to feel sorry for the addict and blame the drug/substance. But that attitude exhausts me because it makes me feel as if I can control it and change the addiction - but now I know I cannot. I have to accept that taking drugs is ultimately the addict's choice, and I cannot control that. I wish they would realize who they are hurting and how selfish they are. Whitney Houston is a tragedy and a death that came too soon, as are the deaths of thousands of addicts every day. But, I don't know if I am sad for her the same as I am sad for her family and friends, and society as a whole.

I hate it to more than anything!

Very sad, a crack addict with the voice of gold at one time. Now gone, following the footsteps of many other sad souls.
Addiction is a catch 22, the addict must take responsibility for their drug use, yet because of their drug use it is extremely hard to stop using because of the psychological cravings. Even in the best cases people who recover from addiction is low. Hopefully some day in the future more can be done to help with psychological cravings and help people go on to lead happy lives.

I am a singer. I LOVED singing her songs, I took pride in learning every note, every breath, she was my idol for SO long. Then the change that transformed her made me sad. Last night I was blown away and when I read the reports coming across the internet, even though I was enthralled in my own addicts drama at the time, I wept. I wept for the God given talent that she wasted away. I wept for the lack of strength she had, she was SO strong before Bobby Brown, and then watching her show with him disgusted me. Then as she divorced him and I watched her wither away, I pitied her. No voice, her strength gone, her grace long gone.

With all that money, this addict could not combat her demons, just shows us that no matter HOW much money one has, it can not bring a cure or happiness.

Now her daughter has been rushed to the hospital, even in death the addicts drama spills over to the family and loved ones.

But on the flip side, she is at peace and singing with the angels.

I agree with you, in death the addict is freed, but the pain continues for the ones left behind.The pain of their addiction, the pain of their passing, and the pain of all the what if's, and knowing what could have been

I've posted here recently about losing my addict brother on NYE. As I heard the news about Whitney and was familiar with her struggles over the years there came no doubt in my mind that it was related to her addiction.

I think it speaks volumes if someone like her or Michael Jackson who have all the success possible in life, all the money they could have ever wanted or needed could not get past all the demons of their addiction.

It is loud and clear to me that addiction does not discriminate between races, economic status, profession, etc.

It is still very sad. I especially feel for the family and friends left behind.
