My x has been in jail now for 3 months. I'm assuming and he claims he is clean.He had a pill problem for the last several years. Recently He became a high functioning heroin addict for the last year. I had no idea he was ever using until the last 2 months. I suffered from depression and he was always attentive to taking care of me. Making sure I was doing well and in a good place. He would clean, cook, laundry everything a normal person would do. He always put me first above everything. He worked a really good job. But never had money. Hmmmmmm... Then I found syringes in my house and I freaked out. He denied they were his. But we all know they were. I had to kick him out because of my children and thats when he went downhill. I found that for several months he was stealing from me to support his habit. He was so depressed about our break-up he OD. My question is is it possible to have a relationship again? He treated me like a queen. Can he stay clean? is there hope or should I just move on??? can anyone relate?
He also said he feels the best he has ever in 10 years and was greatful I had him arrested for the theft. Could this be his rock bottom or am I just blinded by love and hope of him staying clean once he gets out?

right now? yeah, he may be sober because he has no money and connections in jail...has he asked you for money yet?
and I am sorry, addicts OD, I don't know if I buy that it was over the break up. maybe, maybe not- but that is nothing for your to feel guilty about.
He has a long history of addiction, so he would have to be sober for a year after getting out before I would risk any relationship at all...and certainly not moving in.
Yes, he treated you like a queen, but you paid for it, he stole from you.
I hope he is telling you the truth....but live your life and go on...then see what happens. (all this without knowing how long you were together and how long he is in for.)
And you have to think about the example it sets for the kids. Kids always come first in my book. they don't need the in and out of the house relationship or to be endangered by living with an addict. you are lucky none of his dealers showed up to your house looking for him.
