Yesterday was the one year anniversary of my sons near fatal overdose. I was just thinking what a horrible event that was and always will be to me, however I decided to post an update to show change and progress are very very possible . So many of you know my story but for new people. That don't my son was barely 18 last January when I found out he was abusing drugs. He went through withdrawals at home with complications because he was abusing heroin and Xanax My son did a I O P program 3x a week for 4 months it wasnt enough he relapsed and started drinking and finally after 4 months of being clean he tried heroin once more and almost died. Thank God he survived it . Last summer was not very good he started abusing ketamine on and off his attitude was terrible and he was drinking any chance he could get. I was so distraught through all this Finally in September he started with H again I gave him a choice get help or get out and I was prepared to have him leave but was glad that he choose to go back to rehab. Since September he did slip up and do ketamine in December and had a drunken episode on St Pats day but he has been free of H and all other opiates since Sept . 8 months this is his longest stretch and I hope and pray he continues trying to break free from the ugly chains of addiction. His life had gotten so much better since he has stopped and although I do worry about him I know this is his journey and I will always love him no matter what and never give up hope and one day instead of posting about 8 months clean I will hopefully be able to say it has been 8 years and then 18 years and so on and so on. So to all my friends on here that have helped me to survive this last year I simply say thank you from the bottom of my heart and here's to looking forward to a brighter tomorrow. Dee
