My son started walking at 9 months and running at 10..which meant lots of trips to the ER because he didn't know how to stop! He was a left handed, december born boy...and was typically dyslexic. Very smart...very dyslexic. He did cross meridian training (crawling and standing up using opposite arms and legs together) for physical therapy later on in his life- 3 and 4th grade.

I always wondered if his LD issues were something that contributed...

I don't think it's a weird question at all who knows what triggers addiction it could be anything and if we stop seeking the whys? We will never find the answer but the scary thing is I'm starting to see a bit of a pattern here because guess what Matt walked at 9 months also. ( both my girls started at exactly a year) when Matt was born he almost didn't make it he was an emergency C section because he was in distress his Apgar score was only a 2 but he came around and seemed fine except for one thing his entire head was a big contusion black and blue. He was literally stuck in the birth canal cause he was a huge baby 9 lbs 4 oz and 22 inches and I am very petite only 5 feet so he was just too big and I worried for a long time after that if he would have any lasting effects probably has nothing to do with addiction but I have wondered if he somehow got a little brain damage to that area if the brain? Who knows but these kind of questions are worth asking because you never know.

I agree not at all a weird question. Paul started crawling early and walked at around 9 months - then fell head-first onto the fireplace hearth & was rushed to the ER - he's also extremely smart, started playing piano by ear at age 4 and like Blue's son was born in December.

Similar to you Kim we believed Paul to be an exceptional child and now spend lots of time wondering what we missed or did wrong and/or asking ourselves where we went wrong...

Yes it was a weird question but..... Kyle walked at 9.5 months. Did everything younger. Was very smart really mature and loved being around adults. Always wanted to be older. He was a very easy and portable baby. Basically the perfect baby. Any adult could babysit with no problem.

He is a very talented artist and learns new job skills very easy. Needs to be busy busy all the time.

He was always an impulsive risk taker. Frequent injuries because he was the one to risk the big hill in his skateboard or scale the 8 foot fence.

So your weird question is quite interesting. Am I describing your child?

Sorry Ladies, I am going to blow your theory, Sean is a twin, and he crawled and his sister didn't she rolled, he walked I would say around 11 months, but they were also premature by 8 1/2 weeks. The one thing that was evident, compare to his sister, is that his motor skills were keen, he too is ambidexterious favoring his left hand in sports. Very hyperactive, which I am. It's very interesting because you wonder if there is a common gene that makes one of an addictive nature. where is our resident Doctor Katrinka?

Justin was not like any of the babies you described. he was very late to walking and even later to talking. He was a shy baby and very serious. He was also super easy to care for. very content to play by himself with his toys and books and very, very smart. Always a teachers favorite student because he was calm, thoughtful, quiet not your typical boy... Never in a million years did we ever think he was going to cause us one ounce of trouble. Now his older sister was wide open and a terror from the day she arrived and now she is a happily married mom expecting her second baby...

Trevor was adopted from Paraguay at the age of 13 months and he wasn't walking yet. In Paraguay they apparently don't like to have kids crawl on the floor, so it was a new experience for him when I put him down and let him go. He was walking within a month. I think his delays were related to his background.

I am noticing other patterns, though. He's left-handed and dyslexic. I've also wondered about any relationship to his malnutrition as a baby and a very high fever (105) as a toddler for two separate illnesses.

My son crawled at 5 months and walked at 10 months. We now believe he always had ADD but he wasn't offically diagnosed with it until his senior year of high school. He was also physically agile, great at sports, and prone to injuries due to general recklessness. Also warm, affectionate and everyone always loved him for his manners and thoughfulness. He was the star of his senior year musical...great singer and dancer. Hard to believe he wound up selling and using drugs and breaking our hearts.

There have been studies that show people with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and mental illness are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. You know, that whole "dual diagnosis" thing. I definitely believe my son's ADD contributed to his addiction.
