This has been the longest two days. He came home from jail. Didn't know what to expect. Was he going to make me feel like crap for not taking him in. We had a four hour drive home. I was surprised that he didn't ask.
His only option was a men's shelter. If no one has lived thru dropping their kid (man now) off to a shelter let me tell you it was gut wrenching. He came to my house for a bit. Had a bite and had to tell him it was time to drop him. As he got out of the car I can see him choking on tears. I wanted to die. Broke my heart.
Yes I could have kept him here with his POs permission. I thought about it and almost weakened myself. But the thing is I love him. I love him enough to let him feel what it is like to see what he has done to his life with his heroin addiction. Based on the past if I took him home he would get
Comfortable here and not do rehab like he committed to all year. He would have lasted a week at best without using. His only chance of survival is this shelter. Make it hard on him. He called today for a bed tomorrow. Fingers are crossed he goes. He deserves a better life. Hopefully he is realizing this.
I feel awful. I want to just cry but the tears just seem to be stuck inside me. I'm so tired of heroin. It's ruined our family and I'm doing everything I can to keep hope and faith that one day this will all pass and be gone.
I pray to God this will do it. Nothing else ever has. I'm tired of being strong. I want to be me with healthy sons.
I top of this my son who is in rehab was taken to the hospital last night for a broken ankle. He finally starts playing sports and gets healthy and now this. Proud of him. Motrin and back on crutches to his rehab.

and those of us left here on ds...most of us have not had to bury our addict....Cardinal and others have. I only bring that up to give you some perspective. celebrate you have someone to drop off.
You showed him love and compassion and that you believe he has the ability to take care of himself, and that is respect.

Blue...appreciate that. You are right. I have someone to drop off. Last week at my sons rehab we lost an 18 year old from a relapse after he finished. We are all heartbroken. He is one of many that I know have OD'ed. This is real...hes still in the shelter. Sticking to what I say. He is going into treatment tomorrow. I know that if I let him here he would be using. He may very well have found his rock bottom. Trying to keep the faith.
And I try here...sharing what I have been thru and all the insight I have to heroin addiction. I know how lost I was and sometimes still am. Everyone on here that shares can save lives. I'm grateful for everyone willing to help.
