Families & Friends Of Addicts Support Group
Addiction affects more than just the individual. This community is dedicated to the families and friends of individuals suffering from any form of addiction. Mental health professionals are increasingly considering alcoholism and addiction as diseases that flourish in and are enabled by family systems. Family members react to the addicted person with particular behavioral...
I have the same thing going on. My spouse called and talked yesterday and was normal. Really normal. She was nice, positive, a little flirty. Basically the same way she behaves when she uses. But she also started a new antidepressant and mood stabilizer a week ago and says she has a sponsor finally. So I didn't know what to think. Today it was back to guilt trips and picking fights. So was yesterday use and today is withdrawal? Or is the new medication affecting her? Who knows... That's why I'm still moving forward on a divorce but I'm not advocating that for others. I just feel like in my case it's better for everyone - more safety here and rock bottom there - maybe we'll both get better. I hope so.
BUT somehow a miracle has been bestowed upon us, he seems to have overcome that particular side effect in just one day. he has been on that medication for about 10 years, so maybe it was a temporary reaction to dose increase? what next?
This local girl only 18 went manic because of stress. She was acting weird, next thing you know she is naked in her works parking walking around and talking to herself. This was a 2 in the morning, luckily neighbor across street saw her and called police. She didn't have any drugs in her system and doesn't do drugs.
So I guess anything is possible. I always felt if ah went back to using it was only a matter of a couple of weeks and I knew.
And anyway, actions speak louder than words. The last thing you should take into account when considering whether someone is using, is what they say. My goal is to get my life organised so that it doesn't matter to me whether the addict is using or not.
as far as i am concerned at this point it makes very little difference to me, this is his gig to work out not mine.
i am remaining very committed to detachment with some sort of peaceful co-existance.
I know for myself this economy is hard and I had to cut back on my employee's hours. Luckily she is semi-retired and can't make over a certain amount of money. I was thinking yesterday I wish at this point in my life, age 55 that I had picked better men so it wouldn't be so hard financially. So I understand what your talking about. I had just wondered why you stayed in the relationship you didn't seem to quite enjoy.
.
HOLDON yes there is shining soul under all that shit and i can still see it from time to time. this is a hard life trying to love an addict, so we do what we can. i can't always detach, but i have learned to forgive myself for those outbursts and move forward.
Hugs to you
