Two years ago today

Two years ago today I came as close to losing my son as you can without actually losing him. Matt overdosed and when I found him he was clinically dead according to the EMT . Thank God for Narcan it brought him back to life. I have had so many ups and downs on this road since that horrible night. I have learned so much about addiction mostly from my friends on here. The support and love I have received here are truly a big part of what kept me going. Sometimes things just seemed so hopeless and other times things seemed to be turning around. Right now Matt is not using drugs because he was arrested in January and I remain hopeful that although he was forced into recovery it may be the final reason that makes the difference. Being the parent of an addict is so very draining always worrying and thinking ahead two steps so as to try and figure out what is around the corner. It's impossible to know as it is for the future of anyone addict or not what the future may hold. So I try to just accept each day as it comes because I have learned that no matter what we may do or not do say or not say it is not up to us to control their future only they have that key . So I will keep us ALL in my prayers for peace health happiness and recovery in the days ahead. God bless you all . Dee

you know normie families don't have any idea of what is possible for them to go through. they miss out on being as grateful as we all are.

Dee, it's great that Matt is in recovery, regardless of how he got there. I think the biggest hurdle for many families is just getting their loved one into treatment in the first place. That first step is so important.

I've learned so much from you and others on this site as well, and the hardest lesson has been learning when to let go and let my son work it out on his own. It's a slippery slope, but I'm getting better at it, thanks to the loving support of people like you!

You my dear friend, have come so far, and Matt is so lucky to have a mother that's loves unconditionally, and gives of herself every fiber of her being. You are stronger than you believe you are, and you have been a wonderful friend. I love you and pray for only the best for Matt, he will do this.

I really don't know what I would have done without you amazing people. Going through the struggle of having a son addicted to drugs is the worst thing I have ever had to deal with (and I've had to deal with a lot)....your support and kind words gives me the courage to go on...to take things one day and a time. I thank you all for your posts, I find these words encouraging. You are all very amazing!

Dee I have not been aroung this site lately but without this site and you I never would have made it this far.. We have all grown through thick and thin with this disease and each one of us has learned something form the other. Nope we can't control anything but yes we can offer each other support, friendship, love, advice... So much good has come out of so much pain.. who knew that was even possible?? Your family is very blessed to have such a loving mom leading their family and Matt knows how much he is loved and prayed for by all of us moms here.
