Ok, so he lost his job today. He called me this morning, crying, and said his boss said he was sleeping while raking (which I don't understand). His version was that he forgot his sunglasses and he was "squinting". My first thought was that he was nodding off. I've seen him to this. I told him this was not normal and there was a problem somewhere. He says I don't have his back and I asked How could I? He's lost three jobs in as many years. But, it's never his fault.
I've asked him to come over and talk to me for the last three nights. He has yet to show up.
Just don't feel like I can deal with his dysfunction but I know I'm the only one he can turn to. I refuse to let him move back in with me. I really feel like if he can get some help with the ADD and of course, intensive treatment for the addiction, that he might one day be ok. I just don't see him ever being a functioning, productive adult. He has so many issues, ADD, addiction, anxiety, mild depression and so on and so on.....
Fast forward to last night....he showed up last night and admitted his problem with pills and admitted to recently shooting heroin. He is asking for help. He says he can't stop the pills because he gets sick. He doesn't have insurance and doesn't have any money. I'm single and it's all I can do to keep up with my bills. I want him to go to a rehab a few hours from here but it's $3000 for 28 days. If I can borrow the money for this what other treatment options are there?

Then you can look into 3+ months rehab that takes medicaid. There are free long term programs but they are faith bases. Life teen is also faith based and prorated. Faith farm is in Florida as are other faith based programs.
an emergency room, social worker, homeless shelter or salvation army may be able to refer him someplace. 'My son got into a charity hospital, then to a homeless shelter/rehab, then a rehab, then a halfway house and then a sober living house- the last two he had a job and paid rent.
I hope he can find the help he needs.
My advice is to check out resources in your area; like the ones Blue mentioned above. Make a list of them on paper and the next time he asks for your help hand him the list. Set a boundary as to what point in his recovery he'd be welcome back into your life and then let him work it on his own. To do any more than this without his 110% effort - you'll only end up spinning your wheels for naught and frustrate your life. Remember you didn't cause it, can't control it and won't cure it.
