I had the wonderful gift of having my son fly home to visit with us for the holiday. ( 11 months sober this week) my daughter wanted so badly to pick him up at the airport. As he was driving home, he called. So full of life, the excitement I had heard when he was 7. He said Mom I'm coming home! And then he said mom don't be mad but me and S ( his sister) are going to go to the city to see his college friends ( who he hasn't seen in a year) as first the dreaded pit came to my stomach and the rush of bad memories came through like my current hot flashes. BuT all at once a flood of all of you came rushing through my head. your words, Your advice, your lessons. And as clear as day, I thought courage first, then lessons.....
So I took a deep breath and I said to myself, this is his journey and it is his chance to use the tools he has learned and I had the greatest sense of peace. Thank you! If this was one year ago, I would of absolutely been a walking basket case but today for no other reason than this site I too was given tools and like my son I had to use them. I had the greatest Christmas present my son home, sober! It is because of believing and never giving up hope.
