new to this group and thank god for it because it is so hard to try to feel better when i am faced with the worst situation of my life! My 18 year old son is currently in rehab for heroin zanax roxy u name it hes done it. I am so sad that such a handsome smart wonderful son has decided to turn his life into this hell My new unimproved life started 6 weeks ago when my son was found passed out at a fastfood place from a near od and rushed to the hospital talk about intution i just knew something was wrong that night but had NO clue how wrong things have been apparantly for the last 2 years. He was doing well (or so I thought) just graduated from high school in june had a fulltime job working w my husband and I thought he was finally starting to grow up in the past he had trouble on and off for drinking smoking pot but never in a million years did i ever guess things were so out of control He hid it very well and I was very naive well those days are over it reminds me of september 11 life will never again be the same as it was before. 2 days after his trip to the ER he was back in an ambulance again for a very close call heroin zanax somas not even sure what else but he stayed overnight in the critical care unit where he was strapped down for the protection of the staff and it killed me to see him that way. my husband and i went home sick w worry thinking how did this happen? how did we not see this coming? I still can't answer that one but I do know I have since learned alot about drugs well the story continues he came home the next day expressing his sorrow for putting us through this and we accepted that but told him he had to go to rehab which he agreed he claimed he wanted to tell us for sometime but didnt want to hurt us so we got the appt for his rehab facility and we go there together only to be called back into the room where they were conducting his evaluation to see my son sprawled out on the floor in convulsions with all the staff around him looking very uneasy it was the most horrible thing to watch my sons body distort in such ways that looked like a scene from an exorcisim he was rushed to the hospital again (3rd trip in 5 days) where he was treated for dystonic reaction the ER doctor explained that this usually happens from suddenly stopping antipscychotic meds we spent the day there n he was released that evening and put on a medicine usually used to treat parkinsons disease well this was a thursday and he was ok (sort of) over the weekend except he was having all the withdrawals from stopping heroin so he hadnt really slep in a few days. Now the hallucinations start he 1st starts seeing things that arent there like his friends and he progresses each night to the point where we had to send our 2 younger kids 10 and 12 to other family members because he is so out of it I no longer trust him around them we had to screw our doors to the house shut because all night for 3 nights he was trying to go out to work(at 3 am) told me people were outside stealing tools out of his dads truck (no one was there) etc i stayed up for 3 nights in a row to make sure he didnt escape and get killed but i had enough when he came up to me a 3am and said excuse me mam do u work here because i cant find the footlocker store in this mall thats it I called my brother who happens to be a cop and told him he has to come help my husband and i get this kid to the hospital ( I needed back up in case he tried to jumpout of the car ) so he was back at the ER again for 4th time in a week where he finally was admitted to the pscyhiatric ward and received treatment i was so worried he would not get his mind back but I thank God and the doctors that he did. I am also happy to report that he is in rehab back at work part time for now and started an adult education course pt i kow it is going to be a long difficult journey that i wouldnt wish on anyone but he is worth the trip so i ask for any prayers for him to remain in recovery and i will be more than glad to do the same for anyone who needs it I know this was a long story but i really needed to vent so thanks for those that cared enough to read it . PEACE be with all of us
1st thing,,,, don't enable,,, of course your feeling sad for him right now,,, but he put himself into this situation,,,, educate yourself, not just on the drugs,,, because the drugs are only a syptm of the addiction,,, Addicits lie, manipulate,, steal,, and while using could care a less about anyone,,, but where and how they get their next fix,,,,, does"nt mean he does not love you,, just loves his drug more....a this point there is no nagging your addicit,, he knows what he has done, or how much,,,,,
my addict is a beautiful 22 year old,, that looking at her never in a million years would think she would be a herion, crack addicit,, I've seen pictures fof "those" kind of people,,, guess wht,, drugs do not care what their victims look like,, their not prejudice,, it does not matter if your rich or poor,, wht kind of family,,,, the first hit, is the hardest has far has concince,, it's gets easier the next time,, and the nexttime,,,, it's a disease in their brain,,, cant' control and addicit, cure nor are you the cause of their addiition,,, most importantly set boundaries,,,, say what you mean,,, mean what you say,,, if y our going to kick them out becasue they are using in your home,,, it's okay kick them out,,, an addicit will find ways to survive,,,,please don't become addicit to your addicit,, don"t let them consume you,,,,
and this site is awesom,, it's truly my life line,,, there are amazing people on here, that will share their stories,,,, give adivce,,, but it's also a good idea to find a nar-anon, or
Al-anaon meeting in your area,, I attend both,,,,
We know how you feel,,, we know your pain,,, however, we have no idea what is going through an addicit"s mind,,,,, Pray,,
hugs,
Kim
It sucked, he is my only child. My husband is wonderful, he doesn't have children of his own and has known my son since he was 10....and he is heart broken but SO happy to hear I finally put my foot down, which i should've LONG ago!
NOW he is in touch with the VA getting the help he needs and he is ON HIS OWN...
They get themselves into this mess, they MUST learn to get themselves out.
I was sooo wrapped tight, my marriage was failing, I couldn't focus at work, it was awful. I was VERY depressed...
I have gotten therapy, I have come to understand and accept.
I love at a distance, I give no money, i will gladly fix him a meal if he wants to call and make arrangements to come over but he will not live here ever again.
I have repainted the downstairs, new rugs, cleaned ceilings to floor and I'm VERY happy.
I refuse to trip with him any longer. I had to detach and stop enabling him.
So, I pray daily, I come here knowing I'm not alone....
And the sad part is this whole neighborhood is inflicted with this sad disease and alot of the parents have NO CLUE what is going on. I haven't 'come out of the closet' yet, but to my closest neighbor. My sister knows, but my hubbies family does not. I can only deal with one thing at a time.
So I will keep you in my prayers....as I do with all of us on here.
I wish you peace and please for GODs' SAKE take care of YOU above all......don't get addicted to the addict. it is sooo easy to do. I didn't see it until it was crashing down around me.
Hugs out to you!
saying a pray for all of you ..
