Honestly since he is so far gone I think your best bet is to get him arrested. It may just save his life!! If you know he is using in your house he must have drugs there and if you call the police and they find his drugs they will lock him up maybe then he will sober up enough to see how bad off he is. I know it's counter-intuitive to what a loving mom should do but right now you can not remain his friend you can love him of course I know you do it's why you're here so desperate I feel for you but I really think you have to take this drastic step I pray it works out for you and you're son I really do. Dee, thanks so much. My husband and I actually said that is probably the route we will take. Better in jail than in the street or overdosing. I truly am so destraught over all of this and if I could give my life for his I certainly would. Thanks again for all your advice and support!

Jo...call 911 and say bring an ambulance better shot bringing him to a hospital detox unit. If they will. If his vitals are off they have too. The police in my area will only arrest them if they have drugs or Syringes on their person. In their room no one cares.

I'm concerned about the eviction if he's in this bad a shape. Maybe calling an ambulance will shake him up. It did mine. That's when he went back.

You and your husband are on the right track. I know it's a hard thing to do as a mom, but we are all learning to do the hard thing if it is the right thing. I will be praying for you.

I feel your pain Joe! Stay strong and take good care of yourselves so you can be well enough to make good objective decisions. Not sure if you know about the Marchman Act (involuntary assesment/treatment) , perhaps it's time to consider it there's something similar in your state. I agree w/ givenup in that make sure his health is ok before he leaves even if you have to call an ambulance and have him baker acted for a few days. I support your decision of having him evicted as "Addiction cannot thrive without an enabling support system". I suggest finding a Psychologist w/ many years of experience in addiction if you can and attend sessions w/ your husband as well as nar-anon. It's important to learn to break the attachments and conditioning that occurs when we enable. It will also help you two on many other levels including finding best strategy/options for treatment for him.

We can only change what we have the power to change, the rest is unfortunately out of our hands.

I am so sorry for the pain. I know what that looks like very intimately, form my own son. The marchman act is not in every state, and is not so easy to implement anymore. The truly best course of action is exactly to call 911. Also, not sure what he is using, but if he is using opioids go to any drug store and buy the narcon inhaler or pen. Have it accessible.
It wasn't until I stopped allowing the drugs in my home, that the drugs stopped coming into my home. It was the hardest thing I had ever done in my life, but for me, it not only made the difference between life and death, it made the difference between addiction and sobriety. praying.

Ambulance for a proper detox then immediately press charges for theft if you can. Maybe they can get him from detox straight to jail. Often times a few months in jail followed by a good 90+ day rehab program is what many need.
