SMART Recovery Program

I spoke to Mack last night. He was much more positive yesterday. He has been put into the SMART Recovery Program. I have never heard of this one. But he was very excited about it.

Has anyone had any experience with this program? I would love to hear personal experiences with SMART. I did do some searching online. And this does sound like an appropriate treatment for Mack (we're not 12 steppers). I'm hopeful.

the ds group...alcohol recovery without AA has had several discussions about it. You could look there. the alcoholism board has one lady who is currently on and using it. For those who want it to work, it can work. I just don't know enough about it to add more than that.

Any treatment program will work for those who want it to work. There's some family meetings in my area. I'm gonna go check it out. I need more info.

Smart is an excellent program. Its structure is in cognitive therapy instead of faith in a god of your choice removing your defects.It also has a program to help families learn CRAFT, Here is their web site and there is a online meetings monday evening for families of addicts. Also online meetings for addicts. Addicts are taught to think before they react and how to do this. It is now illegal in a lot of states to make someone go to AA or any 12 step program as the government has deemed them religion in nature. Which is against the law .
It is not true any program will work. Example if a person does not have a faith in a higher power then telling them to have faith will not work. It also has been shown that programs that are based in religion have a lower success rate if the person does not believe or is not taught how to work through triggers and basically the science of addiction. Smart has a higher rate of recovery.

It is a very good program and hopefully he does well. They also meet only 1-2 days a week as they feel the person has to live in the real world and has family obligations. I wish Smart would of been around where I live years ago. Its still not as I live in the bible belt.

I did register with their web site earlier. There is the online meeting and also a physical family meeting in my area on Monday. I'm going to try to go to it. But that's the day my Emily leaves for basic training, so it may not happen. I just started reading about CRAFT. I do think this is a much better fit for Mack. We will see what happens...

I am a big fan of CRAFT and have read the book for family members. They are trying CRAFT for family members in a couple of place I hope it takes hold and offers real rational help for families. Dr Robert Meyers has a good web site also.

I have been reading every book on codependency since 2006. I have been going to -Al-Anon since last Dec. I am interested in CRAFT and have heard some good things about it but feel i cant cram another thing into my head. I wouldnt know how to make myself do it..Too many...
