Hi pat so sorry you are going through this. I have been where you are ,and your right you cant reason with an addict. I think you know what you are going to have to do down the road its sounds like your close to making that tough choice. Dont beat yourself up over it. Just like the addict we also have to be ready. In the meantime try and do some research on addication and maybe treatment places. Also keep active in the group it will give you some added strenth. When the time comes and you have had enough through your research you can tell her the options that are available to her Stay strong and never give up hope

Hey girl , you will get point where you have had enough,,, and then you will regret that you did not to it sooner ( been there),, you can't control her,,, just seeing that from the time she picked up her perscrption till you took them,,, she already took more then she was suppose to,,,, so really what's the point of you keeping them?,,, I have yet to meet an active addict admit they gave a problem !!!,, denial is part of the addiction, just like using drugs, lying, stealing ,,, pointless arguing with her,,, wasted air,,, take control of your life ,,,

I know I already know what to do but it isn't going to be easy. I didn't want to come home tonight and I searched for an Al-Anon meeting somewhere and came up empty and fustrated. I really need support right now. When the time comes and I tell her to leave I know a fight will happen and my son is going to get involved and then I am going to have to call the police, it's going to get ugly. I know I have to be strong but right now I am scared to death.

The worst thing about this diease is its harder on us than the addict. Iwish there was an easy way to detach from someone you love without it breaking our heart. If there is I sure dont know about it, Detaching dose not guarentee they will get clean,but going on the way you are guarentees they wont. If you have seen my video you know I was at the point you are at now. It is a very hard thing you will be doing,but try and think of it as the first step of recovery for the both of you

When I first went to Nar-Anon, I shared my story expecting someone in the group to provide me with the right words to say to my addicted son to make him stop using heroin, the right threat, the right ultimatum. Instead, what I got was this: "Nothing you have done up to now has made any difference in your son's behavior. It's time to try something different." Nothing you have done--controlling her meds, pleading, threatening, policing, etc., etc.--has had any effect on her. It has just frustrated and defeated you further. It's time to try something different. Only you know what that is. But let me assure you that once you do it, it will change YOUR life. It may or it may not change hers because, ultimately, only she can change her life, but it will change yours. And it will be for the best because it will give you back a sense of control over it. Best of luck and may the change come sooner than later.

I'm really sorry you're having to watch this happen before your eyes. It's absolutely hard to sit back and watch people you love just slowly kill themselves off with these damn drugs. But you're right...there is no talking to her, there is no bargaining or even rational thinking.

I agree that the time will come when you've had enough. I know for me, many of my friends don't get it. They don't see why any person would put themselves through this. But you will eventually get to the point where you say enough is enough. For everyone, that point varies.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts and advice, I told her today that we need to sit down with her councelor or her doctor and be truthful, it's the only way this is going to work. The doctor who is perscribing this med does not know the effect it is having on her and I want to make sure he does, hopefully they can switch her to something else. She has agreed because it'e her last chance, I'm done.

God, if only I had a dollar for every time I've said, and seriously felt like I meant it when I said it was his or her last chance and I was "done". No parent should have to be put in this position. I am so sorry for what you are going through and I pray that you get some resolution for this situation. Warmest wishes.

I could have a shopping day like I haven't had in years!!!! I'm 46, single income household, still supporting my 22 yo daughter, my 5 yo son and my 1 yo GS. There are never any "shopping days" anymore. It's always just trying to scrape up enough for basics like milk, bread, eggs, sugar, juice, diapers....................To have back all of the money that I've spent trying to "help" my 2 addict kids in their recoveries.............I'm sure it would make me sick if I saw the amount, and from some of the stories I've read, it's very low compared to many others.

Not to mention if I could have back all the money they've stolen from me through outright taking money to pawning my belongings.......

I love what Beantown said. That's exactly what I keep telling my BF. He jumps from one medication to another and says he's clean because he's not smoking OCs anymore. I've been dealing with this for the entire 2 years that we have been together and I'm so done with it all. I have tried kicking him out but he won't leave stating his name is on the apt lease (even though he has not paid a cent of rent in 2 years). He still lies, even when caught in the act and gets very defensive when called out on his lies. I have emotionally shut down and just do my own thing. I have tried to get rid of him but he's like a tick.

Oh TurdFerguson....I hope your lease is up soon and you can get free! And when you move, turn everything off, and pack up your stuff and get out...have the inspection, put his stuff in a box and give back the key...Even prisoners get parole.
