oh yes... mine did... for him, it was usually because he had used too much before the Rx could be refilled,or when he flunked out of his treatment program, then he had to conserve what he had (or even get some from friends)... they can use a portion of a strip, melt it and shoot...

Yep, our son did it too :( I wish I had some words of wisdom for you. I truly believe there isn't anything we can do to help our addicts get clean until THEY are ready. We can love them, pray for them, set boundaries, and support them, but WE CAN NOT make them get clean. If only love was enough.......none of us would be on this site.
Please.....try to set boundaries, continue to love him, and never give up hope.
And, as always....say the Serenity Prayer often, and repeat!

Thank God for answered prayers....he had made the call and is going to check into a detox facility tonight. I keep telling myself and him....one day at a time....thank you all for the support and I will keep you and your loved ones in my prayers.

Update. fourth night at detox facility. When he called last night, he said he thought he would be ok after detox. We all know that's not true. How do I encourage him to seek long term treatment?

Hopefully the detox center will assist with arranging a tratment program / sober living house for him to go to?!
Speaking from experience....I would not let him come home. I would encourage a treatment program, followed up with a long term sober living house.
