Replacing Addictions

My husband is a free base user and has been clean for approx. one month. A few years ago he had some drinking issues and went to AA and completed one year and then stopped going. In the past, he had a beer now and then until he started using the coke. Since he has stopped doing the coke, he has started drinking (a couple of times a week) and smoking pot. I'm scared because to me, since he has an addictive personality, he shouldn't be doing any of that crap. What should I do? What can I tell him?

my husband abuses pain medications I do not classify him as an addict because when he runs out of pills he does not pull the typical addict behavior (ex doing whatever it takes to get more) however he replases the pill usage with beer and at times smoking pot. No they should not be doing any of it. What can you do? Not a damn thing. They need to want to do it they are using whatever to cover something inside up or so that is what I am told. Set your boundaries and do not let him cross them hopefully he will get help. It took me leaving and visiting a lawyer about divorce before my husband decided to get help. Good Luck God Bless

All these substances are "mind altering".... you may not want to hear this but he has relapsed. He's simply changing seats on the Titanic.
What should you do? Attend Alanon meetings. you'll get lots of information and support to help YOU.
What can you tell him? Whatever you want in terms of your boundaries and his consequences. In terms of his using, remember. You cannot control, cure or cause his addiction.
