So my son went away for a long weekend up to Lake George . He left on thursday and just got back home last night .Of course i was worried while he was gone but I started worrying less and less the more I spoke to him when he checked in. He and his friends rented canoes went fishing, played pool etc etc...I could tell each time we spoke that he was definetley sober and it was so nice to have him enjoy himself without the use of substances. I am pleased to say a drama free vacation I think it is important to try not to dwell on the past he kept thanking me for letting him go away with his friends really the truth is I couldn't have stopped him from going he will be 19 years old in 2 months so he is technically an adult . But I respect the fact that he thanks me and appreciates it even though it is not up to me. I'm glad he had fun. I want him to have more and more experiences of sober fun so he sees it is possible to enjoy his life without drugs/alcohol.

That's a good point. We always talk about how using needs to be more painful than not using, but this helps too - when not using is a LOT of fun. I hope he had a great time and holds on to that as something he wants more of in the future. :-)

Hopeful but cautious is my mantra today too!! I'm so happy to hear that he had clean and sober fun!! My son has been home with us for about 3 weeks and has gone out with friends a few times and that is honestly very hard for me. I am positive the whole time he is out that he has relapsed.... But I am pleased that your son is staying on track!!
