Its very common for heroin addicts to relaspse,, they actually will relaspse quite a bit before they actually use,,, addiction us a life longe disease,, they are never cured, only the disease can be arrested,
Dont cuddle,,, I would rather have my addict put in jail,, then going to identify the body at the morgue ,,,
I think Cardinal is right.
My son is on probation and I did call the PO about two months ago to tell her that he was still using drugs and would not be able to quit without treatment. She promised to investigate treatment options, but had better things to do. We finally got him into IOP on our own. I suppose when you have violent criminals you are supervising, an addict is low priority.
A few weeks ago the PO was here for a home visit and we talked about drug use and if it would result in him being violated and going to jail if he was caught. She told us that she wasn't going to violate him unless he actually got into trouble with the law. Until then, she would just work with him on trying to quit by mandating treatment.
So, if you call the PO, don't expect help or that she'll go to jail. It's still not a bad idea to call, just keep your expectations low.
Otherwise, set your boundaries. She should not call you or come to your house unless she is sober and willing to talk to you with respect. You will not provide any money, but you will support her in any way she needs it as long as she goes back into treatment. Let her know that you love her, but be a broken record about your boundaries. It's probably also not productive to get in a fight with someone who is using. (I know, that's easier said than done. That's a lesson that I really need to apply in my own life.)
In the mean time when daughter calls for money say no and don't play into her manipulation. Hang up and tell her to call when she is not using drugs. Be tough but loving and don't believe all the crap she will blame on you.
There was a point when my 23 yr old heroin addict was missing for 3 weeks,,,, I drove myself insane,,, physically I'll ( did loose 50lbs, that was the only positive thing),,,, went through 2 recaps, she just got released from jail after 6 months,,, in those 6 months she did not use( I'm sure it was not by choice ) know we have a whole new issue ,,, she is depressed,,, cause she lost everything to this drug ,,, she is back living with us,,, but I have educated, gathered tools for my self, talked to others,, so in much better place then I was
Here for you girl
