I'm not a therapist, but your last comment about your son, sadly he is blaming you, do you think that he is really lashing out at you v.s. blaming, you know, put the blame on you when he is really 'feeling' the blame on himself, like he should've been able to do something about it? He was young then, but do you think he is blaming himself in reality and maybe that is his way of crying out to you for some help in putting his feelings to 'rest' shall we say? IT IS HARD!!!...I've been struggling a lot lately...and I often post in the depression group that Life is hard...and it IS!...but over the course of the last year, I've come to realize that as hard as life is...Recovery is harder...Real recovery requires real honesty...and the fact of the matter is that the truth hurts...that is why it is so hard...and that is why we get stuck...because it's hard and it hurts!
thats all...good luck.
