My son agreed to get a "drug and alcohol" evaluation which is required to start most programs here. I was pleasantly surprised that he truly made himself available at 5am and we sat outside in freezing weather from 7am to 7:30am because it is first come/first served and they limit the number. It was a lengthy process, over over 4 hours, but he did alright until the last hour or so. He nodded off frequently and had to have questions repeated to him, his limbs jerked and then toward the end he was awake and jumpy. He told the counselor that he needed "a nap and something to make him feel better". He was very honest with the eval as far as I know (he allowed me to be there). She asked him if he would be able to finish because he kept nodding off. She asked him early on if he would go to detox immediately following the evaluation and he agreed. She found him a bed (usually a 2 week wait) and we went. They took him in immediately. This is voluntary and I am hoping he toughs it out and finishes the 3-6 day detox. There is a rehab program there, but they are not sure he will qualify because he hasn't "failed" 2 times at rehab. I am happy he agreed to detox, but scared he will not complete it. If he does, then what if no rehab available? Thanks to all of you wonderful "listeners".
