Amen, I too pray for all of the friends and families destroyed by drugs and alcohol.
It is horrible and painful and I pray all of us non-addicts can release our addicts from the grip evil has on them.
And I pray for all of their enablers to open their eyes and realize they are doing more harm than good.

You hit the nail on the head - dead-on! I too feel the exact same way and there are days when I think I'll never feel good again because for me it just keeps getting worse. In the process I've been through too many emotions to count: hurt, anger, disbelief, guilt, frustration, humiliation, numbness, depression, hopelessness, helplessness, anxiousness and the list goes on. I'm so tired from all this crap that there are days when I wish death awaited me. Just when I think I'm at my very lowest & feel totally alone in this boat I happen to read a post like yours and know I have a kindred spirit, a friend - a lifeline of hope where one day I'll find the strength to pick up the pieces of my life...

The feelings we go through are horrendous. I just had to learn to let go. I have to tell myself daily I am powerless over his addiction. I pray God will bring me peace. I pray you all will have peace in your life through all of this. Our recovery is a process. The same as theirs. It is not an event.

Its sad how addiction hurts families. Addiction has been around since man first found out a weed could take him away from the troubles of life. There were more alcoholics in the late 1700 then there are now and more addicts in general at the turn of the 20th century. I think we are just more aware and we do not just except this behavior. No longer are a lot of people just willing to live with addicts and their terrible attitudes and behavior.

I think MRambo summarised it well - for us its a journey not an event. Each day learning how to let go. I'm too busy getting my life back together to spend time thinking about addiction and addicts. It just is.

I understand how you feel I pray everynight my husband will not die before he gets help. I tried to help him but he thinks I was just mean and that is what he is sticking too. He still does not think he is an addict he moved back to Missouri 3.5 months ago and has not called me or his son. We have spoke to him briefly and moved in with his ex wife after me and him are still married and have been married for 21 years. His mom and brother do know that he is addicted to pain pills and believe what I told them, but the ex thinks he loves her and they will marry. I do not know how that is going to happen, we are still married. She is enabling him because she will not say anything she thinks she took something from me. I do know he is started drinking along with the pills. I still miss and love him so much but he is not the man I married. I am having to try daily how to live without him until he finds his way back home clean. If that ever happens. My prays go out to you and your family. These drugs take anyone.

kquinton, I'm sorry I know it hurts. Your ah just went to find someone else who will be codependent with. He will tell her anything to make his life easier, but it still hurts.

kquinton- sounds just like my father! alcohol and opiates run off the same brain receptors so it is no surpise to me that he is drinking with the pills too. It takes a miracle to get the addicted straight. Keep praying. There is always hope until he breathes he last breath. Peace be with you and your family. I know the agony you feel. I live it everyday.
