It's so easy for us as parents to want to help and protect our kids and so very hard to let them go and fly on their own. But guess what, if we keep doing for them how will they ever learn to become mature & responsible adults? However, I do believe that realizing there is a developmental delay and being there to support and encourage vs drawing the line at enabling them from growing is a fine balancing act that we as parents of the recovering addict must learn to negotiate is also a part of their successful recovery.
