As most of you know I have been dealing with my daughter's addiction for quite some time now. She was in the hospital for 10 days and was transferred to a treatment facility 48 hours ago. I just got a call from the socialworker there and he told me Krista is being discharged tomorrow, I nearly fell off the bed. I explained her past history to him but he insisted her insurance would not cover her after tomorrow which I know is bull. My daughter is not safe to come home she has not been off the clonopin long enough to not want it and she still can't control her emotions. I told the SW that she is only telling him what he wants to hear and if she told him the ttruth he would see that she is not ready to come home, he told me he would have her call me when her group was over. I told her she better tell them what ever she has to so they will keep her I don't care if she lies but she is not coming home tomorrow. I ended up hanging up on her so I don't know what is going to happen. If she tells him she doesn't feel safe and is suicidal don't they have to keep her? I don't know what to do, I am sick to my stomache. Should I call her insurance company and plea her case, I really don't think she is ready yet. She hasn't been off the clonopin long enough says that she isn't craving it but I know better. How should I handle this, any advice my friend.

If you don't feel comfortable letting her come home, then DON'T LET HER COME HOME.

Remember that she is a grown woman and has to make her own decisions.

If you do let her come home, then set the ground rules firmly and with consequences attached.

After treatment, my son went to a halfway house, then a sober living....not home. there were guidelines to live there. that helped.

I feel your pain, patnard. When my son went to a treatment center in November our plan was to have him move into a sober living facility. We were investigating them at the time and they all needed 90 days of sobriety, so we were looking for some other short-term options. Then one day the treatment center called and said he was being discharged the next day and we should pick him up. I was incredibly upset because I drew the line that he could not live at home any longer.

Will the social worker let her be released if she doesn't have a place to go? Or, can he help her to find a place to go to?

I don't understand these places. They are supposed to be helping them transition to life on the outside and that's pretty hard to do if they are dumped back in their parents' laps without any preparation.

hi Pat, I have been in your shoes . When they RELEASE OUR KIDS BEFORE WE KNOW THEY ARE READY TO BE RELEASED NO AMOUNT OF PLEADING SEEMS TO HELP. I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED BUT IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN YOU DON'T WANT YOUR DAUGHTER TO COME HOME YET, LOOK INTO FREE STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDED PROGRAMS. Our city has one that is free of charge and alot of the folks that go there don't even want to get clean they just have no where else to go. And alot of the folks there do want to get clean and they work their asses off to make it. Ask your social worker for every treatment center she knows about every state has free ones you just have to mean it when you say she can't come home and she has no where else to go. How is it that she still has insurance? Is she employed? I took my son off my insurance years ago and so when he was homeless and uninsured he recieved all kinds of good quality free services. Are they perfect hell no but if you stay on top of it and she realizes you mean it you can get her help.

Thanks for all your advice ladies, I am not sure what I feel right now I am so upset, I am going to give this some prayer and a night's sleep and see how I feel tomorrow. They have generously( lol) given her until Friday to figure out where she will go. If I do allow her to return home I will set very firm boundries and WILL stick to them this time. I have ttried to call several sober living houses and other state run facilities but the waiting list is ridiculous. Please say an extra prayer for us tonight!
