It will be an emotional day today around my house, today is my birthday, it will be the first Christmas without two important people in my life. My mother passed away last May, and my grandmother passed away 2 weeks ago. My dad is one of 5 children, out of the five there are 6 of us cousins, and from us there are 8 of our children that have gathered at my grandma's house for Christmas on this day all our lives. She nearly made it to see 91 years on this earth. Rest in peace Lois and Barbara. My spouse is still in rehab, we thought she may get out this past week, but the head counselor decided she needed at least one more week. She missed my sons birthday a few weeks ago, and is upset about missing Christmas, and my daughter cried yesterday when she realized momma was not going to be home for Christmas. Lord please grant me strength during the course of the day.

My mother-in-law passed away in August, so our family is struggling with her loss, too. We always spent Christmas Day with her and now we're not sure what to do with ourselves. Rest in peace Mickey. We'll really miss you.
We still haven't decided what to do on Christmas, but we are determined to make new memories and start new traditions. I noticed there's a local bowling alley that has family bowling Saturday afternoon. Maybe we'll try that. Christmas day is traditionally a busy time at the movie theater. Maybe we'll go see that new Harry Potter movie the kids have been begging to see. A friend also mentioned that she and her husband have been going to a nice restaurant for a beautiful Christmas buffet every year since their kids left the nest.
You have a great opportunity to really have a special day with your kids, and oddly enough, it's probably best if your wife is not home when you do this. You can sell it to your kids as her coming home to make a new start at the beginning of a new year.
