I know for my son it was avoidance...
listen, we did help him on occasion, his last promotion cost him 400 bucks extra the first month, and he didn't have it. He gets all his bills and if he needs help, he has to ask. He also, got the same kind of feedback from us and I also sent him suggestions on a budget.
I am more than willing to help on medical emergencies, and now they both float or they don't.
I have to add in all honesty, that last year with my daughter divorcing, we helped her quite a bit...only to get her to move out of her house sooner, while she was still finishing her master's...and I don't regret it.
I have been there, and it is scary...those old feelings. BUT the honesty and communication you have going on now is fantastic, so put it into God's hands and let it go. Like Kat says, falling down is part of the process. SIGH.

I hope everything works out and that it is just bad money management. It's so hard to let our kids stand on thier own 2 feet but you are doing an amazing job!
