I am new here!
I am reaching out here because I cannot go to any group here in town. He would not allow it. I am not allowed to talk about this to anyone. When he drinks, especially Fireball, he gets mean and takes it out on me. His whole world revolves around alcohol. He spends every last dollar on it to the detrement of our bills, our survival.
When he drinks he becomes abusive! I know emotional abuse is not as bad as physical abuse or sexual assualt and some would argue that I should just stop complaining, maybe I should, after all I am enabling him. He will not get help. He suffers severe anxiey as well, self medicates, refuses to go to a doctor. Threatens suicide, has for years. I am trapped, I feel numb, caught in a perpetual cycle.
There are usually battered womens shelters that you could go to that will help you. Although I also understand how you feel and what you may be going through.
It probably seems like others turn the other way. Kind of like a blind eye to the problem. Remember you are not the problem and there are people that have suffered what you may be suffering through now.
Emotional and Mental abuse is the hardest to overcome. The scars are underneath where they can't be seen. Followed by sexual then physical abuse.
