It doesn't sound like he is ready to do anything about the problem at this point, but just like any addiction, it is getting more apparent. his carelessness is an indication of this.
Possibly there is a Co-dependents Anonymous in your area that might help you get started on your own attitudes and behaviors, if you think you might be co-dependent. it can help you get comfortable with knowing, just like with alcohol, you didn't cause the behavior, nor can you control it or cure it.
