I’m torn whether to stay for financial security or flee? You sound incredibly strong and I wish I was more like you..I find myself so angry sometimes and react when I know it’s futile when his been drinking. It’s such a constant cycle & exhausting.. thank you for replying and sharing your story x
As a child of a functio nal alcoholic and one that is fully recovered a year before I was born. My mom was the functional alcoholic and my dad has been recovered 30+ years. There is nothing I want more than my dad to be happy. He has been with my mom a few years more than you and your husband. I still beg him everyday to choose happiness. Happiness is what it means to you. I am also recovered. Your husband will only change when he is ready. I am sorry for the things he says to you. I hope I am helpful. I saw your post and it really hit home. I pray you find your happiness. If it means to leave, you have to do what's best for you. Sending you comfort, care, and hugs.
Many blessings
U did not cause it. U can not cure it. U can NOT control it.
U cannot be the answer for him. He can only get help HIS way and on his time and his terms. U will not determine that for him.
But U are in control of YOUR choices.
Al Anon saved my life 7 years ago. I come from a family that has an alcoholic as the "center" and I couldn't handle it any more. I thought I was going to lose my mind and I had tried everything.
I go to Al Anon now.
It has NOT changed the alcoholic. He still drinks. It has not done anything to temper HIS behavior. He is still on the same destructive path... But I am NOT.
I take care of myself.
I got a sponsor. I draw boundaries. And I go to meetings.
Best of luck to you.
