It is with terrible sadness that I am writing this to let some of my friends on here know that my sister passed away on Oct 2 due to her many years of prescription drug abuse. So many years of ups and downs with her all ended nearly two weeks ago. My poor brother I law found his wife not breathing and although Ems got her heart restarted she had no brain activity. My entire family rushed to her side to see her on life support with no chance of recovering. I am heartbroken beyond words. She was only 51 years old. To watch my poor mom and dad have to deal with this ex cruicating pain of burying their child kills me. My beautiful niece who is my sisters only child had just given birth in late June to my sisters first grandchild a beautiful baby boy that will never get the chance to know his amazing beautiful grandmother all because of the power of those damn pills. I am so sad for my niece. My sisters husband is one of the most wonderful people I have ever known he loved my sister so much and treated her like a queen I hurt for his pain. My brothers and other sister and myself are still in disbelief that our oldest sibling is no longer here with us. My daughters as well as the rest of her nieces and nephews can't even seem to accept it. My son Matt who as many of you know is the main reason I joined this site four years ago is absolutely shattered. He stood over her bedside and cried and cried and couldn't even stay in the room at the funeral home because he was so sad . I pray this strengthens his resolve to stay sober and that he learns from my sisters death that it could very easily be him. Sad truth is she worried so much about his problem with drugs and he worried so much about hers and neither one of them worried about themselves. I guess part of me fooled myself into thinking this would never happen with her because after all these are prescribed by a doctor but of course that was t the case. I ask for prayers for my beautiful sister Karen and for all of those that have been forever changed because of her passing . Thank you in advance and know I pray for all of our loved ones that suffer from this horrible disease. God bless Dee

I am so truly sorry for your loss. It is so tragic to hear this. I am sending you prayers and hugs.

It just shows how powerless we all are to this terrible addiction. It doesn't affect just the addict, but the entire family.

I wish there were some words of comfort to offer. I pray
For you all to find strength to get thru this together. May she RIP.

First I would like to say how deeply sorry I am for your loss. It makes me so mad that these doctors are not held accountable for prescribing all these pills.
I will say a prayer for your sister Karen. I hope you will find some comfort knowing that she is in the hands of the Lord and has know more suffering.

I just want to say thank you to all of you that took the time to respond and said prayers. It means so much to me. I am having a really hard time with this , as one could imagine for many reasons but one being that I just feel it was such an unnecessary waste for her to die. My sister did have a legitimate reason for taking pain pills but it doesn't matter these pills are so destructive they quickly take over your soul and by that I mean opiates . Same shit as heroin really just legal and comes from a pharmacy. I know we are making great strides in some ways with the prescription pill abuse epidemic but not as swiftly as I would like to see it. On a last note when I took my daughters to Myrtle Beach in April and the one got a terrible sunburn so I brought her to the local walk in clinic the treating doctor offered to write her a script for Vicodin I was floored and very quickly refused it but my point is she's 14 years old I was looking for a topical ointment or such and the Dr. Was so quick to offer her pain meds really ???? Are we as a society partly to blame for bullying doctors into a quick fix wether it be antibiotics or pain meds etc. ??please use the utmost caution when it comes to that particular class of drugs watch out for your family and friends and let's all use common sense and maybe just maybe the next generation won't be so destroyed with the addiction epidemic that we are all living with today !! my Dear friend, my heart is so broken for you. We have been together since the beginning, I know the struggle your sister has had, and I know the pain you have had trying to help. I am so sad for you and your family, and I wish I could find that words that could repair your broken heart. I hope you know I am always here and I pray that you and your family will find strength in God.

Thank you all for the prayers and support. ( Dee you know I love you ) ok well the thing is when I first wrote this I didn't know my son was using again but found out last week he had recently relapsed I am beyond crushed! It goes to sow you that this is a lifetime disease that can be kept in check but it must be managed by the person that suffers from it . I am hopeful because my son actually came to us before we caught him which tells me he wants help and is getting himself the help he needs so I will continue to pray that he does what he needs to do to remain sober and out of the clutches of the evil devil that we all know as addiction. I am very sorry for the passing of your sister. Chronic pain can become unmanageable to the point people just do not realize how much opiates are already in their system. My cousin died from opiates. She was a school teacher. Pain is just difficult to manage. I hope you and your family will find comfort in the good memories shared with your beloved sister.

Dee, I know how hard it is, but I am so proud of M and what he did screams volumes of HELP. He is using his tools Dee. Not to justify his actions, but I am sure the passing of your sister touch a cord so deep inside that it set off so many triggers for him. I Know M doesn't want to be in that place, he has worked so hard, and he will continue to do so and my friend you have come so far, your right it is his to own, and his alone to conquer. love to pieces.D

Jeez Dee....all I can say is I'm sending you so many hugs and so many prayers. What you have endured is beyond words. I'm sure your son will pick himself back up. Seems they are so fragile when stuff hits.

I go to bed at night and lay there praying for all our loved ones. Seems the list just keeps growing. It's so hard and so tragic. My thoughts are with you
