If he is thinking on that note, you might want to think about calling someone to get him some help.At least suggest he talk to someone that can help him work through it...

Oh dear. The fact that other people have fallen, is so hard on them. They feel even more alone and isolated.
The good news is that there were immediate consequences to his screwing up, and that is part of the learning they need.
I do hope if he is at all serious, that he gets the help he needs. sometimes we just get so tired of everything it seems hopeless to go on...but there isn't really motivation to do anything. I hope that is what he is feeling.

Beantown I am really sorry to hear this news I know it must be so upsetting for all of you but the good thing is that your son opened up to you as to how he is feeling . I have had bad moments like these as well but again Matt talked to me instead of running back to his old ways of coping with problems. Can you get him to go talk to someone about how he is feeling? Maybe he needs to be on medicine for the panic attacks/ depression. I can't help but feel sorry for them for the crap they have gotten themselves into due to the damn drugs. I will say an extra prayer tonight for your son and you too . Hugs Dee

Nar-Anon training is kicking in big time today! Have kept my wits, got him to help his dad and me paint our rental house in time for the new renters (we live in a college town and renters seldom stay for more than a year), haven't preached or tried to "fix" things. Last night he was feeling very down and he agreed to see a psychologist or psychiatrist to treat his depression. He is borderline bipolar and has been taking Seroquel but I don't think this med is addressing the depression and anxiety issues. I hope he decides to follow through on this, but, of course, I can't nag him but have to let him do it himself.
Thank you all for your moral support! Our lives are built on quick-sand, it seems, and when we least expect it, there we go down in the pit. You DS friends are luckily always there to throw in a life line and help pull me out. Bless you all.

I am so sorry to hear this, please just hang in there and let your son know he can talk and you will listen to him without judgement. My son now tells me when he feels despair and I try to not panic. It sounds like you are keeping it together really well. I will keep you and your son in my prayers...

I'm so sorry for you and your family, Beantown. I've been thinking lately that our kids' problems seem to have many layers and as we think 'the problem" is fixed, eventually we need to get down and fix the what's in the other layers.

The panic attacks and depression are probably the underlying issues and he will be that much closer to a full recovery when he takes care of these. It's really a good sign that he opened up to you. It's tough, though, that he lost his job.
