Maybe he is ready! It won't hurt to talk with him. If he wants to get help, have him help you contact people...(I would have some phone numbers ready- just because I would want to make it happen fast)...If he is BSing you- feed him a meal and show him out. Tell him you love him.
I never shut the door on my kid, I just had to work on the whole detaching with love thing...I took my kid to the medicaid office a couple of times to try to get him on...but somehow when HE did the requesting of help at the hospital he went to, them magically sped everything up.
Maybe running out of options is his hitting bottom. I hope so.

I agree with Blue, this is the hardest thing you will do, but try to separate the addict from your son. Don't let the tears, tug on your heartstrings, if he wants help, don't you go out of your mind calling numbers, let him do the work, he must have skin in the game. Let him know that you will be there to support his recovery not his use. Good Luck.

Hear him out and tell him you will only help if he seriously wants to help himself. It is normal to have your doubts because of this roller coaster they have put us on. I hope and pray he is serious and wish you good luck and prayers.

Well, he didn't show. He called and said it might be late when he got there because he was working on a side job. He said he wanted to come, he was ready to see his Mama. When he didn't show I called him a couple of times and it went straight to voice mail. I waited until I fell asleep. When I woke up this morning I had a voice mail from him from 11:30 last night saying he was sorry, so and so's car broke down and that it had just been a long day. He sounded shaken and upset. Said he would def see me tonight. I just don't know it all that's true or not. Very disappointed.

Hey! I hope he is sincere but this sounds like my son. There were always excuses and stories, some quite elaborate. Nothing was every his fault. At the time, most stories involved getting something from me (money). So many times he promised to pay me back when he got paid. I would call on the day he said he was getting paid and he would not answer calls or texts. He had no intention of paying me back. I was a great enabler. I really did want to believe him. I think, but in my head, I knew he was not being truthful.

Start keeping track of any broken promises, etc. and you may see a pattern but I really do hope your son comes to you to talk and wants to get help. Keep us posted.

I know how that disappointment feels, but right now your son is not the boy you once knew, so as hard as it is you have to separate your son from the addict, try not to have any expectations, and just stay focused on creating boundaries, and your hardest to not enable him, or allow him to tug on your heartstrings. Something I read that no matter how many times I look at it, it send chills up my spine, " I am not a bad boy trying to get good, I am a sick boy trying to get well." your son is sick. sending hugs to you.
