I don't want to tell You what to do but I wouldn't wait any longer to get Yourself help. There are groups that gather to help the family member of the addict.
Or get counseling for Yourself so You aren't in this for another 10 years and realize what a waste it was.
If he doesn't want help, then You can't make it happen. As my kids told me, 'you showed him what love it, he just wants to be bad'

You are a codependent, I am like you learning about being codependent to an addict. If an addic is happy with you, you are probably enabling or making excuses for his behavior. Start focusing on your well being, seek support groups.

Alcoholics and even dry alcoholics (ones that are sober but have not gotten into recovery) are very very selfish people. It 's part of the disease.

They will not change.

But YOU can. Seek counseling, Al Anon, and / or a sponsor.

I did all 3. And saved myself.

Thanks to everyone for their comments - they helped me to make the final decision today to leave for good. I'm LEAVING him, and that's final. More crazy abuse today pushed me past my limit! I will see a new counselor today and am asking for her help to get me another place to live within the next 2 weeks. I have 1 or 2 other people from Catholic Charities in my area that said they might be able to help, too. Another place said they could help me with some finances to aid in my move. I need support and encouragement right now, so if anyone cares to respond that would be great.
